Hexham Races

{racingfixtures|Hexham}
Northumberland is the most rural county in England and largely defined by wonderful scenery which forms a backdrop to many outdoor sports, activities and recreational pursuits. In the heart of Northumberland lies the town of Hexham and overlooking the town, high on the moors, lies Hexham Racecourse. At 700 metres above the sea which draws the county’s famous coastline, Hexham racing is represented by the highest hurdles and chases to be found anywhere and the stunning setting is matched by the quality of horse racing on show.

Hexham Races, inside rail National Hunt fixtures held on the left-handed undulating track at Hexham are demanding to say the least. Soft ground is common and the undulations on the moor course and challenging uphill turn before the finishing straight demand a great deal of stamina.

Unsurprisingly, Hexham is a course for specialists and local trainers tend to have more success. The difficult finish does make for some exciting spectacles however when horses are close at the final bend and Hexham racing is well attended.

The chase course at Hexham has 10 jumps and they present less of a challenge to horses than the course itself.

After navigating the 2 open ditches and water jump before the last turn, the horses enter a separate spur of the track which has one fence and a lung-bursting furlong to home. If your horse is out of contention by the turn it is unlikely to make up the ground.

While Hexham racing certainly attracts the National Hunt enthusiast, holidaymakers find Hexham a great day out too. Northumberland has a great many accommodation options for lovers of the great outdoors and with convenient access to Hexham via the A69 which links Carlisle with Newcastle, combining a thrilling raceday into a vacation schedule is easy. On racedays a free bus shuttles passengers from the train and bus stations in the town to the course which is some 2 miles away.

There are various ticket options for racegoers. Standard admission to the Club Enclosure and Paddock Enclosure costs £15 and £10 respectively.

Either option places guests at the heart of the action, with all the amenities and features required to enjoy a superb day at the races. Concessions are available for the Paddock Enclosure, with students and OAPs gaining entry for £8.

For a party of 20 or more, a 20% discount on ticket prices can be had by making group booking. In addition, the organiser of the party can gain free admission as can the coach driver, if applicable. Most tickets can be purchased on the day but for the group discounts the booking must be made at least 10 days prior to the raceday.

Families are welcome at Hexham and with free parking and children under 16 gaining free entry too, it makes for an inexpensive day out. Further savings can be made by bringing a picnic and in the May and June fixtures children’s entertainment is laid on.

Hospitality and catering packages provide further options for those who want an all-inclusive raceday experience. These are ideal for private celebrations with family and friends and for business networking with staff or clients. With everything taken care of, from tickets to dining, guests can spend their time mixing the excitement of Hexham racing with enjoying the company in elegant and stylish surrounds.

Hexham Races, photo finish Hospitality options are offered in three categories, Platinum, Gold, and Silver, each defined by the choice of dining, from three-course sit-down meal to two-course finger buffet. Common features with each package include badges for the Club Enclosure, room hire, licensed bar, racecards, and Tote facilities for betting. CCTV screens are provided too so guests don’t miss any of the action.

All that is left is to choose the venue which best suits your requirements. The latest addition to Hexham Racecourse is the Ramshaw Stand, from which superb race viewing is the main attraction.

From the Members Enclosure, Guests can enjoy views over the track, the Parade Ring, and further vantage points are offered from the patio area and grass terraces.

Popular venues for private hospitality are the Chase Bar, which is located on the ground floor of the stand and has bar and Tote betting facilities and CCTV, and The Curlew Room, on the first floor, which offers sit-down dining and good race views.

For the ultimate in style, elegance and hospitality for larger groups at Hexham there is the Henderson Suite. With full panoramic views over the entire course, backed up by tote betting facility and CCTV, Hexham racing can be experienced to full effect, and with a capacity for 120 guests for dining and up to 180 for a reception, complemented by a complete bar and all amenities, the Henderson Suite is the premier hospitality option at Hexham. The Northumbria Suite, located towards the western side of the course, and with more limited viewing, offers a more intimate alternative for up to 55 persons.

For smaller groups of up to 24 guests, the pinnacle of luxury and hospitality is provided within the Patterson and Enderby private boxes. The best views are assured from the location of the boxes, on the top floor of the stand, with the front facing the track and rear overlooking the North Tyne Valley and town of Hexham. The private boxes are equipped with CCTV screens and Tote betting facilities and may be combined to accommodate larger groups. All the facilities and hospitality available at Hexham racecourse are available for private functions and events outside the racedays.
